The cortex is a massively interconnected network of neurons that generates perception, complex thoughts and action.  Our research takes a bottom-up approach to understanding how these neural circuits are functionally organized and how dysfunction in these circuits contributes to neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases.

 

We thank the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Institutes of Health Brain Initiative and the National Science Foundation (NSF) for providing the primary funding to our laboratory, supporting our quest to better understand brain function, to develop new therapies for brain diseases and to train the next generation of scientists.
